Acute Toxicity of Chlorine Dioxide to Cultured-flounder(Paralichthys olivaceus) and Its Bactericidal Efficacy

Abstract
Acute toxicity of chlorine diode was investigated to cultured-flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus), and its bactericidal efficacy in sea water was also evaluated against pathogenic bacteria of marine fishes, Edwardsiella tarda, Vibrio anguillarum, and Streptococcus sp., Median tolerance limit at 48 hours (TLm48) of chlorine diode to cultured-flounder was 33.4ppm. Mortalities were not observed below 24ppm of chlorine diode, whereas 100% mortalities were observed above 50ppm. The minimal concentrations of chlorine diode for the inactivation of E. tarda, V. anguillarum, and Streptococcus sp. were 6, 10, and 6ppm, respectively. There were no significant differences in bactericidal susceptibility according to the control time, 5, 10, 15, and 30 minutes, of chlorine diode. Therefore chlorine diode at 6¡10ppm for 5 minutes was recommended as a disinfectant against bacterial pathogens in marine fishes.
